Isle of Mull

A view across the sound of mull, from mull

The Isle of Mull is a short step away from Oban.

The Isle of Mull, often referred to simply as Mull, is very easy to get to and from Oban. There are tours which will take you around the island, a great way to simply and cheaply see Mull. The frequent ferry trips throughout the day make it a great day out and easy to include in your itinerary for your tour of Scotland.

Mull is the third largest of the Hebridean islands and arguably one of Scotland’s most beautiful. In this section we will give you some of what Mull has to offer. We will make a number of suggestions on a great days out from Oban. As we said in the first paragraph Mull is a really beautiful island and very easy to get to.

We have split the Isle of Mull in to three categories:-

  1. Tobermory, the main town on Mull. Very easily recognised around the world by its colourful buildings on the waterfront. What a great marketing idea. More recently it has featured in the children's TV series Balamoray. Tobermory is well worth a visit in its own right, and preferably a stay over night. It has some superb restaurants, shops, walks and trips to see whales, dolphins and more ...
  2. Craignure, is where the Oban to Isle of Mull ferry terminates on Mull. Craignure is well worth a day out from Oban. You catch the ferry as a foot passenger from Oban. This makes the trip very affordable, (rather than taking your car across). You can walk round or catch a bus to Duart Catle and then be dropped at the entrance of Torrosay Castle and walk or better still catch the miniature train back to Craignure. We have included a map of the area to show you where everything is.
  3. The Isle of Mull in general. Here we tell you about all the other things on Mull, from the fantastic island of Iona to ancient settlements, beautiful beaches and more ..... Bowmans tours are a great way to see the island with tours over the whole of Mull. you need to choose your routes and waht you want to see. Bowmans have booking offices in Oban where you can enquire about the routes on offer and what suits you.

We have visited the well known Island of Skye, and our own opinion is that the Isle of Mull is more beautiful and has more to offer than Skye. What it lacks is the Bonnie Prince Charlie story and the romance that still endears.

The Isle of Mull is well worth a visit and we suggest you think this through carefully to include it in your itinerary or better still, book some accommodation and stay on Mull.
