Cycling in the Forest, West of Scotland is a useful guide that
gets you to off-road cycling routes through some of the most
spectacular scenery around the Oban area.
A total of 19 graded
way-marked routes range from ‘Easy’ to ‘Difficult.’
The guide,
produced by the Forest Commission, contains a whole host of
useful information.

Ganavan Sands lies only 1.75 miles north of Oban town centre.
This picturesque sandy beach has attained the prestigious yellow
flag status for its quality and safety standards. Ganavan Sands
beach is one of a few resort grade beaches to have attained this
standard.

Glen Nant Caledonian Forest Reserve. Mixed broadleaf woodland
dominated by oak and birch, with ash and hazel trees in more
fertile soils. Rich community of birds, animals and plants. Wood
ant hills are a particular feature of the area. Way marked
trails: 2mls (3.5km) 2.5mls (4km) and 200m river trail suitable
for wheelchairs. Open all year. Approx. 2mls (3.5km) from
Taynuilt on B845.

A Guide to Forest Walks in North Argyll is an excellent free
leaflet giving details on a whole range of walks for all degrees
of difficulty from ‘Easy’ to ‘Strenuous’. Eleven separate
locations covering 24 way-marked routes are detailed with maps.
The walk locations are all within easy distance from the Oban
area with two on the Isle of Mull. The guide can be obtained
from the Tourist Information Centre, Oban.

Lismore, ‘The Great Garden’, an island with rich fertile soil,
has a long and varied history. Crofting and farming remain the
chief industry. The 2,000 year old ‘Broch of Tirfuir’, with its
internal passage through 3m thick and 5m high walls, is well
worth visiting. The island is a great place for walking and
cycling. A 10 min trip in a passenger ferry from Port Appin, 8am
to 6pm Mon to Sat & from 10am Sun.
Sutherlands Grove. Forest walks, cycle routes and picnic site.
Four walks from 1/2 mile to 2 miles are waymarked, along with
two cycle routes of 5 miles (easy) and 7.5 miles (medium).
Through splendid Douglas fir trees, along a gorge with
waterfalls into mixed broad-leaved woodland of oak, birch, beech
and rowan. Full of bird life. Forest Enterprise. 8.5 miles north
of Connel Bridge on A828.
