Cruachan Visitor Centre is set within an idyllic location on the shores of Loch Awe, the Visitor Centre is perfect for a great day out. Our exciting exhibition shows how the power station works, with lots of information of renewable electricity. There are interactive touchscreens, displays of old memorabilia and a working model of a turbine generator.
Guided Tours take you deep inside the Hollow Mountain, where you will see the mighty Machine Hall, and our experienced guides will tell you about the Power Station, from its history and construction to how it works and its current role generating up to 440MW at times of peak demand on the National Grid. The Guided Tour lasts approximately 30 minutes. Booking is recommended.
Our tours are unfortunately not suitable for wheelchair users and may be unsuitable for persons with limited mobility or a need for weight bearing walking aids (frames, crutches etc) as the route requires tour participants to walk along an up-hill walk-way with a number of steps. We are not able to offer lift access to the Visitor Gallery inside the cavern.
We have an Interactive House where children can play and learn about Cruachan, renewable energy and local wildlife. They can also enjoy drawing activities, quizzes and even the opportunity to dress up as an engineer!
Our gift shop has a variety of gifts for all ages, including a selection of jewellery, children's toys, homeware and a selection of Cruachan themed souvenirs and books.
Our Hollow Mountain Cafe offers delicious, fresh snacks with stunning views over Loch Awe. There are picnic tables on the patio and along the quiet lochside where you can eat your own snacks on pleasant days and enjoy the sunshine. Serving homemade soup and scones to sandwiches and paninis, freshly ground coffee and hot beverages .In season, we use vegetables and salads grown in our vegetable garden.
