Slate Islands Heritage Trust

Slate Islands Heritage Trust-Oban-What To Do-Museums And Galleries-Scotland

The Heritage Centre houses a collection of photographs, artefacts and genealogical records related to the social and industrial life of the Slate Islands of Argyll, especially the people engaged in the former slate industry. These records cover the period 18-20th century. Individual visitors, parties and school groups are welcome to visit the Centre

The Trust also collects documents, records, artifacts and other historical items, to preserve and protect them and make them available to the public.

In addition to the past history the Trust keeps a continuous record of events and happenings of today, for researchers of the future. The Trust is always pleased to hear from anyone who may have information, records and other matter which would be of interest

Slates quarried here were once shipped all over the world.   25 mins South of Oban on A816 & B844.
